Opine, please

February 11, 2012

I passed this house the other day

What?!?

Ignore the wreaths–it’s still winter, after all. Sort of. But the fruit? I assume it is fake but isn’t this decorating a little bizarre? What is the thought process here?

Honey, we’ve got WAY too much fruit–let’s put it OUTSIDE.

We need some more color on the doorstop; really, the only way to accomplish that is colorful food.

Oh shoot! I broke the glass. No worries: we’ll just cram this fruit up there and it will cut the draft right out.

Any ideas?

This is a traditional Williamsburg thing. Didn’t you grow up in Virginia?

The pineapples I recognize, but do people really make their doorways fake fruit isles? I thought the pineapples were mostly carvings, etc.

The idea is that colonial people only had natural materials to decorate for the holidays. Our R.S. made pegboards that fit above your doorway ala Williamsburg. Every year, one hauls it out, impales fruits in an aesthetically pleasing (symmetrical) pattern for Christmas decorations.

Well that teaches me to complain about RS activities–never again.
