It always takes me aback when people ask me if my boys are twins. Granted, they DO look alike. Amos looks more like P.J.’s passport photo than P.J. does. But aren’t they clearly very different ages? I mean, there’s the height, which I guess isn’t conclusive, but for little kids, means something. Then there is the baby fat: P.J. is thinning out of the baby fat that Amos still maintains around his cheeks and belly. Less obvious to the casual observer, but clearly differentiating, are the boys’ vocabularies. P.J. must know somewhere between twice and four times as many words as Amos does, and he uses them like a native English speaker instead of, well, Yoda. Although only 2 years apart, P.J.’s self control is leaps and bounds ahead of poor little Amos. If anything, they are time warp twins–they could be the same person, just 2 years apart.

Maybe people are not ACTUALLY asking if they share a birthday and are instead remarking on the family resemblance. I should take that when I can get it.

I used to get that a lot when Abby and Amanda were this age. Noticeably different in size and age. We still get asked that every single time we go out, though now I can see why they would be mistaken for twins.
