Just Kicking Around
Lily joined a very low-key soccer league. Alright, who am I fooling? I joined her with a very low-key soccer league. They have about 160 five-year-olds who show up every Tuesday and Thursday and get divided into groups with a “coach” who leads them through some skill-building games
Then they scrimage.
Or whatever that was. Last time Lily got put in a game where she was the only girl (I think the coach divided them by height)–some of those little boys are very serious. Alright, who am I kidding? Their DADS are very serious–lighten up, folks. They are FIVE.
Meanwhile, I try to prevent the boys from joining the kids on the field and wading through the tall grass and running away to the playground. I have tried all sorts of distraction tactics (snacks!), but this time, I had to sacrifice my camera to them.
At least we’re having fun. So far. Check back halfway through July.
Lily looks great, so carefree. Jack starts his low-key soccer league next week. I think years of watching sports has already ruined him, though. He made up a team name (the Mount Morris Heroes, colors blue and green) and was running around tonight kicking his soccer ball and telling us how he helped his team win. I hate to tell him, but…:) ah, he’s five, I’ll let him think he wins every time.
