More Small Talk with Peter

June 19, 2010

In an effort to help my children feel and express appreciation, we made and delivered some cookies to a few families that helped us out recently. On returning to the car following the last delivery, Peter wanted some clarification.

Peter: Mom, why do we give them our cookies?
Me: They helped us with our car, so we made them cookies.
Peter: Oh, they helped us with our car so they could have cookies.

You don’t know how tempting it is for a sarcastic lass like myself to leave that be.

Isn’t it interesting how being parent matures us? SO many great zingers out there, unsaid, for the sake of the children.

    Matures?! Ha!–speak for yourself, Abbey.

Maybe nobody really is mature, they’ve just learned what to keep to themselves. That’s a more accurate reflection of my own personal “maturity.” 🙂
