Magical Mystical Library Tour: Pittsford
The best thing about the Pittsford Children’s Section is the entrance:

I guess I could stop right there, because if the entrance is the best thing, you already know I don’t love the rest. Perhaps I am judging harshly: I do have higher expectations because this library is newly built (only 2-3 years old) and they could have done ANYTHING, but they did this.
I will admit that they have an OK play area and nice places to sit down and read throughout the children’s section, which counts for a lot. I like their canvas bags you can check out to carry your books in. And they have a dedicated Story-Time room, and that is important. The computers don’t have any games on them, though, which I find weird. Instead, they direct kids to on-line games and their internet is quite slow (at least for games). But they do have big signs across the bottom of the screen forewarning us that we can’t do Webkins on those computers, and I appreciate them taking that stand against the decline of civilization.
Overall, I would say this Children’s section is average, but you can weigh in my personal disappointment.
BUT, and this is major, we were there on March 31st, and this was one of their displays:

I would totally let this slide up until, um, February. But a day before April?!? You have got to be kidding me!

I don’t know, our weather at the end of March was more wintry than our weather at the end of February.
Yeah – that display is outrageous. I’ll have you know I change my display’s about twice a month – not that anyone notices but me.

Just because it isn’t Christmas doesn’t mean you can’t keep reading about it. After all they do have those books on the shelf all year, they don’t put them in some back room.
Alternatively, perhaps this is a ploy to keep the kids from reading Christmas books out of season–since if they’re on the display they’re out of reach.
Question MaplewoodYA, are people allowed to check out books (other media) that are on display? If so, do you then have to re-do your displays?
Lindsay: yes and yes. The POINT of displays is to show off the wares and lure people into borrowing them.
Whoa. I am even more ecstatic about my library now! They rotate weekly, have tons of new books and our play area? It just kicks ass. It’s really funny that I followed your link from fMh because I totally disagreed with your homeschooling stance and yet here I find myself disturbingly outraged alongside you that this library is displaying Christmas books still in March!
