Ginger…bread?

Our annual visit to the Gingerbread House display at the Eastman House is complete. It unfortunately coincided with a few groups of Girl Scouts and other wayward youth but, you know, we got through it. Their current photography display is Rock and Roll, so I had a good time looking at that and steering my innocents away from the naughty bits. Fortunately, not so many naughty bits made out of gingerbread, but a few.

We each selected and photographed a favorite to share with you, just in case admission is out of your budget this year (although seriously, the extension of the Bush-era tax cuts should at least provide for this kind of a cultural excursion):

This beach scene is the closest we got to nudity in the sweetmeats section.

I am not sure what attracted Peter to this one (I suspect it ws at the right height for him), but I like the way they used their materials.

This was a very cool Notre Dame. Sorry the steeple is cut-off–Lily was more concerned about recording the details, especially the stained glass windows.

So, the kids choose pretty sweet ones, but this is the clearly the best, right? What were they thinking?

Inspired, we did some gingerbread houses at our house, too. Unlike George Eastman, though, we do not charge admission, so come on over. We also have no dead wildlife decor. You’re welcome.

I did not, in fact, bake this gingerbread. Never have, and probably never will. I am allergic to rolling pins. If that makes me the kind of person you hate, the kind of intolerable person who buys a kit (a kit!) at Target rather than actually slaving in my kitchen for the good of the children, well, then I’m glad we’ve figured this out now. I AM that kind of person. I didn’t even buy any extra candy–we just used the crap that came in the kit (kit!). Have we hit an impasse? Sorry; you better stop reading now–so long.

Hey, at least we don’t use Snowman Kits.

Anyway, my kids seemed pretty oblivious to what a loser their mom is. Score.

Except Peter: he may be on to me.
