A Work in Progress

August 18, 2012

I asked the grandparents to record “something” and they both produced impromptu life stories! I’ve always said that Kenyans are phenomenal performers, and these two prove my point. I mean, if you asked me to say “something” to a camera, you would get an akward smile, a wave, and maybe a “Hi! Glad you could come!” These guys conjured up perfectly presented life stories with a minimum of “umms” and “uhhhs” and a rounded-out introduction, body, conclusion format. Hooray for the oral tradition!

If only you could understand them! Well, if you were one of the lucky 1 million Luos in the world, you would (unless you are President Obama), but the rest of my readership probably won’t. I’ll work on a translation–can’t promise when subtitles will appear.
