Mormons Mormons Everywhere

August 5, 2012

Like Nairobi, Kisumu has grown significantly. There is a mall. Enough said.

Well, not quite. They also have a congregation of my Church! THAT is new. So Sunday morning, we went in search of it. It doesn’t really have an address, and when I had enquired, I had been told that my best bet for finding the building would be to get near it and to ask around. Such helpful guidance! Fortunately, a woman at the front desk of the hotel knew where it was, and she gave us directions. In the course of following them, we ran into some sister missionaries who told us we were going the wrong direction. Oh well, at least we could follow them.

This congregation is currently meeting in a rented building, but apparently have bought some land on which to build their own structure. For the time being, though, they are meeting on the covered roof of this building. One member of our family was VERY grumpy and apparently has no problem ignoring the prohibition on filming Sacrament Meetings. Here is a sneak peek for you.

As you might expect, people were very friendly and welcoming and curious about us. We left after Sacrament, though, just to cultivate our air of mystery. Oh, and because Amos was dying for water and I wasn’t quite in the groove enough yet to have been packing my own.

Plus, we still had a big day ahead of us.
