Extended Family Detox

January 4, 2010

My kids really love having family around and by happenchance (I love fake words), we live near my parents which means that when the extended family comes to visit them, they have to visit us, too. So, most holidays, my kids are in hog heaven. Even without “the cousins,” they had a good time with the crew of twenty and thirty somethings lolling around. To wit: inanity with an aunt.

Conversation this morning, a mere 24 hours after Eric and Meg left to return to college:

Peter: Meg and Eric gone to school?
Me: Yes.
Peter: They fly a airplane?
Me: Yes.
Peter: They go to houses?
Me: Yes–they went back to their own houses.
Peter: And drive the car to school?
Me: No, I think they walk to school.
Lily: Or take the bus!
Peter: Or ride on a seahorse!
Me: No.

I really want to call and tell Peter that I ride a seahorse to school, but I suppose I shouldn’t lie. Maybe I can take the ducktour down one day, but ducks are as close as I’m going to a seahorse.

I wish I rode a seahorse to school.

    Apparently everyone does.
