Halloween Decor Philosophizing
Have you noticed how these are everywhere?
I first noticed these in lots of yards probably 5 years ago.
I do not approve.
I just think they are entirely unattractive. I also wonder how much power they use.
I used to think that I was seeing them so much based on the demographics of the area in which I lived.
But I see them in some pretty tony neighborhoods, too.
Given their atrociousness, what could account for their popularity?
My theory is that, in days gone by, these people may have decorated their houses. Maybe they would have made some jack-o-lanterns out of paper plates, or hung mobiles of construction paper ghosts. Or perhaps they were the sort to go to Michaels or The Party Store and invest in some store-bought decorations. But now, people have less time to devote to that, or just care less about being decorated for a holiday. So they can go and get one enormous inflatable and call it done.
At least, that is the only explanation I have.
Just up the hill out of town headed to Nunda, these people have about 40 of these and they light them at night. I admit that for kids, it’s fun to look at. Quite the spectical.
But every time Jack says –seriously– “We could do that.” I say “No” while what I’m really thinking is “over my dead body.”
We’ll stick to pumpkins.
Oh come on–you COULD do that. Very funny.
